Background: Co-founder and CEO in Web 2.0. Intraguild Marketing Coordinator at BanklessDAO. Polygon Advocate. Member of the Secret Society of Whales NFT Club.
Task: "Resarch success/failure cases in other DAOs and report to us in a post, community event, podcast, video whateva."
Potential topics / tasks: "What decisions, processes, types of contributors, onboarding systems, etc have turned out to be highly effective for other DAOs?"
Onboarding
- #starthere channels... these are key, so people know to 1) join the Discord 2) introduce themselves 3) how to get started immediately.
- First quest initiatives can be great; want to make a contribution immediately? Follow Krause House on Twitter, read and retweet the Flight Paper, etc.
- Having a Get Involved channel with the link to the onboarding section of the Discourse pinned would be a solid start.
- Specific Teams or Guilds already operating in the DAO discord so people know where to go to get started; the most difficult part about joining Krause House so far has been that there is nothing going on in Discord other than memes... I really had to hunt to find the "Ideas for New Contributors" part of the Discourse.
- I do like the idea of small teams versus super teams that was presented by Commodore / Flex.
- POAP... each community call has a POAP token, which incentivizes people to attend. Watch out that people don't just come for the token... you will also get some bots.
- Community calls... it's critical to have a strong leader who runs fast paced calls. The dynamic should be excellent between Commodore / Flex. It's also key to get other leaders involved who are members from the guild. It's key that the Jerry's say, "I wanna be that guy on stage".
- Great work with the Meet the Jerry pods
Internal Processes
- Tipping culture: I got started by just lurking in the BanklessDAO Discord, attending calls, and then when they needed social media help, I jumped in, whipped up a plan, and got tipped in $BANK. I was stoked!
- Now all Level 2 contributors to BanklessDAO get a small tipping stipened
- Hype and recognition channel: It's great to have a channel where you can shout out and tip team members. Doing this publicly does two things 1) publicly recognizes a job well done and 2) is a place for leaders to flex their leadership skills when they give kudos to newer members
- Coordinape: Each season at Bankless we do a Coordinape round where each Level 1 and Level 2 contributors are granted X GIVE tokens to give out to people who they've worked with. Those GIVE tokens are automatically converted into $BANK and sent to contributors wallets. It's a very good peer compensation method.
- Bounty board: BanklessDAO has come up with their own proprietary Bounty Board software that other DAOs can use, but many DAOs have general bounty boards or bounty channels. When someone in the DAO needs something done ie: graphic design, research, whatever, you just throw a bounty on it of X number of tokens and it gets executed upon quickly!
- Mental Health Channel: One of the most important Discord Channels at Bankless is the Mental Health Channel, where people come to discuss any personal issues they need to get off their chest. Working from home can be difficult, working on the new frontier of the internet can be lonely, and anxiety around FOMO in crypto is real. It's critical we support each other in DAOs and build real friendships, as being shadowy super coders isn't easy!
Tools
- Discord: This is the high noise communication channel, the key is having community managers and channel owners to keep things organized.
- Sesh Bot: is a really great plugin that allows people to RSVP to an event by clicking an emoji and links to your calendar.
- Discourse forum software: medium noise, medium signal, where important documents and directives for the DAO get published.
- Mirror: top level, high signal, low noise. You guys killed it with the Flightpaper!
