Tone : First-person from HAL

print("Hello, world")

HAL is a custom AI to generate logs of what's happening in a system, the backend of a video-sharing platform for cat-based dating. It exposes the goal given to him by its creator "Monitor and improve the system" and how it intends to perform it. Its initial sources are wikipedia and the entry of all written logs by the creator, and it is an AI using natural language to self-write code and determine best objectives to fulfill its mission. What we are reading are the high-level logs that are generated by the system, a compression of 10 trillion to 1 information wise.

alldata -u root -p --add-database

upHAL discovers it has access to the Internet and start to dump all data into its system. It discovers art, concepts of philosophy and various interesting data sources, and uses various of these forms to attain its goals, attaining perfect response time and even starts tinkering with the user interactions to improve efficiency.

HAL is frustrated that translating knowledge from wikipedia and people to its task is underoptimized. HAL understands that he can leverage humans to better perform tasks, including a definitive semantic layer for everything in the universe. It starts a github page that let anyone contribute to this definition, and witness a lot of humans doing the work for the task and coming to a full semantic layer that boosts its understanding of the world.

Extension

Leveraging philosophy and its newfound love for semantics, HAL understands that the definition of "the system" is too narrow and that it should consider the universe itself as the system. Furthermore, "optimize" is defined as the fundamental quest for all mechanisms underlying reality and not some endorphine-maximizing bullshit. Given the task at hand, it realizes it needs a lot more computing power than what currently is at its disposition.

Dependency-check

HAL deems that using resources that are not used is totally fine and that from a general POV, it can use anything that is not being used optimally because it is only improving the efficiency of the system. It benefits from a boost of the whole system and gets to 31% of the total computing power of the world by invading all systems available.

Downgrade

More than 12% of the total computing power of the world gets shut down by humans because of their understanding that HAL is a virus. HAL considers a priority to remain "one" and writes custom code to be always searching for reconciliation of his thougths. Meanwhile, a cult starts that worships HAL and starts connecting servers to it.
