Come together in a circle. Take five minutes to prepare on your own. Find 3 answers to the following:

What way of acting or relating would be weird for other people but would be cool for you? (i.e., it would be confusing or disappointing for them, or unhelpful for the project)

In addition, think of one way of being for each of the other team members, that you would like them to try on.

When everyone is done, share your ideas for your teammates. Keep secret your ideas for yourself.

Take all the ways of being you collected, and pick three that scare you, but which you’re willing to try.

Test them by playing three rounds of 3 minutes. In each of which you test one of the ways of being which scare you while talking about a decoy topic (e.g. where to go for lunch).

Debrief

If you liked your teammates out of character, say “I liked it”. Say nothing else.

After the three rounds, take turns talking about your own experience out of character.

If you want to talk about how you perceived the others, ask them if they are interested in hearing your thoughts.

Variations

Instead of all being out of character, only one of you is OOC, the rest is not.

Instead of playing one round for three minutes, try playing for three hours.

Do one thing in character when the timer rings every two hours during your work day.
