Most peer-to-peer payments happen through cash, even in digital marketplaces. Money discussions are often taboo in the region, creating hurdles for people to split bills and follow up on debt.
Furthermore, 50% of the UAE population is fully or partially unbanked, which means they have limited access to digital economy benefits and face security and safety issues in storing and exchanging cash.
Ziina or “زينة” means beauty or ornament in Arabic. We believe strongly in the ability of art & design to change people's lives for the better. As a result, we designed a stunning first-time experience that makes it clear what we stand for.
We’ve built a platform that allows users to pay their friends instantly and more personally, removing the awkwardness from money transactions and conversations. It was built from the ground up in less than a year, including the research and design phase along with regulatory licensing and banking integration. We worked closely with regulatory authorities to make our product design flows compliant with government KYC standards and requirements from our bank partner.

Our product is built with three key principles in mind.
Features such as payment requests, chats, and group expense settlements help leverage network effects and remove social barriers around financial interactions. Sending group money requests with an emotive GIF is less stressful and more appropriate than individual follow-ups over WhatsApp.
We work with regulators to reduce security walls and the number of steps needed to perform actions on the product, from KYC onboarding to payments.
Combining a western minimalistic high-tech look with Middle Eastern motives makes our aesthetic unique and appealing to the local population.
