What is this Library?

This library compiles the world’s largest curated list of open-source health economic models (OSMs) identified through a systematic review conducted by Henderson et al. (2025). The purpose of this resource is to make these models easily accessible for researchers, analysts, and decision-makers in health economics and market access.

Why This Matters

Health economic models are essential for evaluating the value of medical interventions in health technology assessments (HTAs). Open-source models, where source code and calculations are publicly available, promote transparency, reproducibility, efficiency, and credibility in health policy and decision-making.

About the Original Study

Henderson et al. mapped the global landscape of OSMs by reviewing 11 databases and dedicated repositories. Their search identified 182 unique models, most of which are hosted on GitHub (74%), with R being the predominant programming language (64%). Common applications include infectious diseases (29%), oncology, and neurology, with Markov models (49%) being the most frequent type. Licensing was typically under Creative Commons, and sponsorship was often from government or academic institutions.

Help Us Keep This Library Complete

This library aims to be as comprehensive as possible, but new open-source models are being developed all the time. If you know of any models that should be included in this collection, or if you've spotted any errors or missing information, please don't hesitate to reach out at mirko.vonhein.consulting@gmail.com. Your contributions help make this resource more valuable for the entire health economics community.
