Idea machines
Things We Want to Talk About:
- The uses and abuses of an agenda
- Differences between Idea Machines and communities (specifically in re: prior work)
- The diagram, what do we want for Reboot in 5yrs, 10yrs?

- Do idea machines collaborate / work together?
- Nadia was really interested in philanthropy and foundations (as a way of funding things that startups / non-profits could not)
- She worked at Github, Substack → why isn't modern tech wealth moving into institution-building or deep tech? (Why is it all EA adjacent lol)
- Patronage is good for some things, but larger projects need to be funded
- Reboot is about 1) good vibes and hanging out, 2) book clubs, 3) good ideas
- we have SOME funding
- Do we want more? What for?
- No real political agenda
- But is that a worthy goal? Where should we put our broader organizational strategy?
Do we want Reboot to have a more ambitious, outcome-driven ideological/political/etc agenda?
And are there tradeoffs
- Organize around a central goal
- It’s not clear that is / should be central goal for Reboot
- What are the borders of an idea machine?
- What are things that are important to all members of Reboot?
- Outcomes we care about: having a good time, making stuff we think is cool
- One difficulty with decentralized orgs like Reboot: reaching a point of coherence
What are some examples of KPIs that Reboot Could Have?
