Q1 : Introduce your team?

Notion : Notion makes software that combines essential work tools - like notes, docs, databases, and tasks - into a single workspace where they can be customized to solve a variety of problems. You can use it to build a wiki knowledge base for your team, manage projects with Kanban boards and calendars, or simply keep your notes and writing tagged and organized however you want.

Q2 : Why do you want to make the Notion app? What’s its positioning different from Evernote and Trello?

Notion : Computers are our most important tools, yet very few of us have the skills to modify them. We want to change this status quo so that anyone - including people who don't know how to code - can create their own systems and tools and use computers the way they want to extend their capabilities. Notion is incredibly flexible. It essentially provides a blank canvas where you can add, rearrange, and customize tools so that they fit your needs. Most work applications solve one problem. Notion can be molded to solve many different problems across many different disciplines. It can be used to take beautiful personal notes. But it can also be used to manage engineering workflows, track candidate applications for jobs, store knowledge for student clubs or massive corporations. It's as extensible or as simple as you need it to be.

Q3 : We found that Notion has many functions, not only regular documents, but also various organizational views such as forms, kanbans, and calendars. So many document styles are the first to appear in the same software. When you were designing, how did you consider these functional combinations?

Notion : Our goal was to take the fundamental building blocks of work tools - documents, databases, mentions, comments, tasks, etc. - and make them easy to consolidate and combine however the user wants. Instead of building a suite of different applications that solve different problems, we wanted these building blocks to interact with one another in a way that makes them even more useful and helps people get even more work done. For example, every row in a table is its own page in Notion where you can add whatever other content (including other databases) you want to add context to that row. We wanted to make it easy to put pages inside pages inside pages for clear and accessible organization.

Q4 : Many readers feel that Notion has a high degree of freedom and is very versatile, but at the first time users may not be able to adapt to the new Block Editor. Have you ever thought of any way to reduce the difficulty of Notion?

Notion : We ware currently working to make the editor feel more natural and familiar. In the near term, writing and editing in Notion will feel like writing and editing in any other software, with the interactions that most users are comfortable with.

Q5 : A few months ago, Notion ushered in the update of important functions such as Web Clipper and Template Gallery, which gave users a big surprise. Can you tell us what the next development focus of Notion is? When is Zapier's automation, API and other features going online?

Notion : Yes, coming down the road in the near term, we have timeline, which will operate like a gantt chart for people to plan out projects and visualize them over time. We're also hard at work on the API right now and it's a top priority.

Q6 : How does your team collaborate?

Notion : We use Notion for everything. It's a value of ours to "eat our own dog food" and use the tool for all of our project management and team collaboration. We use it for our sales CRM and applicant tracking system for jobs. We use it to write drafts of long documents and request comments and feedback from our colleagues. It's been working really beautifully for us.

Q7 : Thanks to Notion's excellent design, its usage is endless. What are your strongly recommended Notion templates?

Notion : We strongly recommend trying Notion out for knowledge management. The editor makes it easy to add content, add pages within pages, and layer in all the information you need to keep your organization informed and aligned. In the product, try out "Company Home" in the "Human Resources" category of our template library. We also recommend using Notion to keep a product roadmap. It's easy to keep track of the status of projects using Kanban board view, assign different tasks to different people, set due dates, tag certain tasks with sprints or teams, etc.
