Theme: Sector Switches, Networking Blocks, and Building Visibility Systems

🧭 What We Explored

1. Sector-switching is harder than it used to be.

Many people are finding it difficult to transition between industries, even with solid experience. Hiring managers now often want domain-specific knowledge. This creates a frustrating paradox: if you’ve worked broadly (e.g. contracting across verticals), you’re seen as less relevant.

2. Positioning is the missing piece.

The challenge isn't lack of talent, it's storytelling. Several folks shared that they weren’t sure how to frame their past experience in a way that feels aligned with the roles they’re targeting now.

3. Geography and career gaps introduce new friction.

Relocations, time off, or moves from full-time to freelance have made it harder to re-engage networks. What's normal in one country or industry doesn't always transfer neatly into the next.

4. “Brute force” applications aren’t working.

Applying to 100 jobs with a polished CV isn’t enough anymore. There’s a deeper shift happening: traction now comes from trust, not just polish.

💡 Core Idea: Borrow the Founder Playbook

Founders send regular investor updates because staying top of mind is the strategy.

We explored how to repurpose that idea for job seekers or anyone building professional momentum. Here’s the simple system:

✉️ The Personal Update Email

Send a regular email to 10–30 people in your network. Monthly or every other month works. Each message includes:

  1. What you're up to

Something recent you’ve done, explored, or built. Doesn’t have to be a “win.”

  2. How you’re thinking about your next move

Are you open to contract roles? Looking for full-time? Exploring a pivot?
