The Future Of Lex We released Lex MVP on November 7th 2019, our wedge into the market was dating. Since November folks are using Lex for so much more than dating. Lexers organized reading groups, worldwide virtual lunches, connected with fellow Black Lives Matter protesters, and more. Our vision is for Lex to expand into a social network – the place to go to for queer community.

The Herstory of Lex

Lex (formerly known as Personals) lived on Instagram for years before evolving into an app. Personals Instagram was inspired by the personal ads written by the readers of On Our Backs, a womxn-run erotica magazine founded in the 1980s. On Our Backs personals were edited by the iconic feminist writer Susie Bright.

"The personal ad process is so powerful for identifying what you really want and putting it out into the universe. Manifesting is real! I'm now dating the butch babe of my dreams, and I swear almost every butch babe I corresponded with after my personal posted is now dating the femme babe of their dreams.” – HW, on Personals Instagram

Lex is a grassroots effort, our MVP was 100% funded by our community. We raised $48K on Kickstarter, organized fundraising parties, saved up the $5-10 for personals posted on Instagram, and donations sent via Venmo, CashApp, PayPal and GoFundMe (Tech Bills 2020).

In June 2020 Lex raised our seed funding from institutional, strategic, and angel investors. We are excited and dedicated to hiring a underrepresented tech talent into our founding team.

We will make Lex into a queer social network, the place to find community for all aspects of queer life – book clubs to protests to threesomes.

Why Lex, Why now?
