How we word things affects confidence, the words ‘yet’ or ‘not yet,’ “give kids greater confidence, give them a path into the future that creates greater persistence.” We can change mindsets.

I wonder how our current appraisal systems can benefit from this learning. For me, when I got a low rating, it did nothing to motivate me to work harder for the next time. What did, were timely conversations where I was shown what I'm doing wrong and how I could improve upon them. They were "Yet" conversations. Not "meets expectations" conversations.
