What's The Point?

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a set of practices for compassionate communication developed by psychotherapist Marshall Rosenberg.

At Plot Twisters, we encourage our storytellers to approach emotions and difficult circumstances with a critical but playful eye. By teaching NVC as a tool for describing internal feelings, storytellers practice self-compassion and are equipped with a lifelong lens for calm communication within their interpersonal relationships. This method supports young people in prioritizing their own health in potentially difficult conversations.

NVC focuses on cultivating three aspects of awareness and communication:

Self Empathy - A deep and compassionate awareness of one's inner-experience.

Empathy for Others: - Listening compassionately to the feelings and needs of others.

Honest Self-Expression: - Expressing oneself authentically by taking responsibility for our own experience.

In order to cultivate these qualities in your communication, NVC suggests that you break your statements down into four distinct components.
