Many of the most valuable contributions to a community happen in an organic and ad-hoc manner.
Someone decides to do something cool and the community benefits. As soon as you try and value these types of contributions you turn an organic contribution into a transaction and the social dynamics change significantly.
1Hive's nominations process is intended to provide a means to reward these types of contributions in a way which makes everyone feel good about their contributions and does not de-value them by turning them into simple financial transactions.

On a bi-weekly basis, we use the Allocations application to distribute a fixed amount of Honey, currently 500, between a set of nominated recipients. Honey holders can then use the Dot Voting application in the Bee Hive organization to determine how the Honey is distributed among nominated recipients.
Anyone can nominate someone for anything that they think is cool by mentioning them in the #nominations channel in the 1Hive keybase team. A Bee will create the dot vote every other Monday and the vote will last one week.
