Thyroglossal duct cyst

The most common congenital cystic midline neck mass

benign cyst that can arise anywhere along the embryonic path of descent of the thyroid gland (from the foramen cecum to the level of the thyroid)

presents with a mobile, nontender midline mass at the level of thyroid cartilage that can fluctuate in size

may become infected leading to rapid enlargement and tenderness

Tx

Sistrunk procedure excises the cyst and the middle of the hyoid bone along with the thyroglossal duct tract
