Explain one cause of ageing populations.
One cause of ageing population is modernisation. This is because as modernisation occurs, more women join the working force and are interested in later marriages. This reduces birth rates and therefore the proportion of elderly people increases, creating an ageing population.. For example, Japan has an aging population because of its strong economy and modern lifestyle..
Question 3
-
Evaluate the city official’s investigation.
Strengths:
- The investigation collects a range of data. It specifics to collect both primary and secondary data through interviews and hospital admission statistics. This increases the reliability of the information presented as it explored varied perspectives.
Limitations:
- However, this investigation only interviews 40 residents of nursing homes out of over 1.5 million residents. The sample size of the investigation is too small so the information gathered from this is unlikely to be accurate and only represent a section of the aging population.
Appraisal:
- Overall, the investigation collects both primary and secondary data which makes the information varied but is limited in its sample size.
Question 4
- How has international migration trends impacted the population structure of the UAE and India over time?
- My RQ investigates how international migration has impacted the population structure of the UAE. UAE has one of the highest migration rates in the world and most of it’s population are expats. Many people migrate from their home countries, especially, to the UAE due to better wages, job opportunities and quality of life. The UAE has a very high number of migrant workers, especially males, which creates an uneven sex ratio and a large working-age population. At the same time, countries like India experience out-migration of working-age males, which can affect their population structure by reducing the number of economically active people. My RQ examines the role that migration has in changing population structures in both India and UAE.
- Certain immigrants may not want to be interviewed which would result in insufficient qualitative data.
- I could carry out a survey, which could be sent to various people, to collect quantitive data instead.
