Question 2
- Option A is to charge a tourist fee and limit the tourist numbers allowed per day. This can have a positive impact in the operators’ aim to prevent damage to the natural environment. The funds collected from the fee can be used to protect the South Bay Lookout Walk and build raised platforms. This will allow the tourists from stepping on the plants and soil directly which reduces the potential environmental degradation. Additionally, by limiting tourist numbers, the number of people stepping on the ground will also decrease and will prevent overcrowding whivh could lead to pollution and littering.
Question 3
-
Strengths:
- The action plan ensures that sufficient primary data is collected through interviews and surveys. This makes the information reliable and allows the operators to collect useful quantitative and qualitative data.
- It also allows for a thorough evaluation of the information collected. It ensures that the data is reviewed and strengths and weaknesses of each proposal is explained in detail. This allows the final decision to be based on a conclusion backed by proper data.
Limitations:
- The traffic count survey was only conducted over three weeks. This is too short of a sample size to collect enough data because it does not consider national holidays, different seasons and other factors.
- The action plan is measured in phases with each phase having a specific set of week(s) allotted to it. However, there are no specific dates or tasks week by week. This makes the timeline vague and difficult to follow.
Appraisal:
- In conclusion, the action plan is collects reliable data and ensures a thorough evaluation is conducted. However, the traffic count and lack of specific timeline limits it. Overall the strengths outweigh the limitations.
Question 4
- To what extent has ecotourism in Kenya promoted cultural exchange between the tourists and the Maasai communities?
- My RQ investigates how ecotourism in Kenya has allowed the Maasai communities to share their culture with the tourists. Ecotourism in Kenya supports conservation efforts, provides income for local communities and creates jobs. This allows the residents to earn an income and also share their culture with the tourists. This increases awareness and allows the Maasai people to be proud of their culture. In relation to the SOI, the RQ examines how global interactions of tourism can increase awareness and promote cultural exchange which can change identities and relationships.
- One limitation of using a GIS map is that while it can aid the investigation to show changes in tourist numbers, it does not explain the reasons behind the trends. It also does not show how they directly impact the culture and relationships of the Maasai communities which limits the depth of analysis and does not directly contribute to answering the RQ.
- Statistics from local government, journal articles on the society and communities.
- One challenge I could face in my investigation is bias in certain cources, as many tourism websites and reports often present ecotourism in a positive way. This can overlook the negative impacts on the Maasai communities and limit my investigation in terms of forming a balanced conclusion.
Question 5
-
You have decided to write a report to explain how sustainable trade can contribute to progress in achieving one of the Sustainable Development Goals listed below.
You will present your report to government officials and other interested groups.
The Role of sustainable trade in achieving gender equality
sustainable trade promotes economic growth while ensuring social equity and environmental protection. this report explains how sustainable trade can help achieve gender equality.
role of women in global trade
- women play a crucial role in global production systems, they make up 70% of the workforce in global cotton production and produce 60-80% of the worlds food. despite this many women still earn very low incomes with more women than men living on less than 1.9 dollars per day. this shows that although women are key contributors to global trade, they do no receive equal economic benefits.
how sustainable trade can promote gender equality

sustainable trade has the potential to significantly advance gender equality by ensuring fair wages, improving working conditions and empowering women economically and socially. although women are already central to global production, they remain disadvantages. addressing these inequalities through sustainable trade is essential for achieving sdg 5 gender equality.
Question 6
- Deforestation is the greatest threat to forests. In the Amazon forest, deforestation causes significant biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. Deforestation is when trees are cut down at a faster rate than they can grow. This leads to habitat loss for many animal species within the biome. Some animals may also get caught in between the bulldozers and die. This causes major loss of biodiversity. Additionally, deforestation leaves the topsoil vulnerable to rain and wind without the interception from leaves and branches. This causes environmental degradation as it erodes the soil and increases flood risk. Compared to other human activities, deforestation has the most immediate and large-scale impact because it removes the foundation of the forest ecosystem, affecting both wildlife and indigenous communities who depend on it.
