W H A T A R E N Y R I A D S ?

Nyriads are humanoid spirits of the forest that can shape shift into the form of their animal familiar when needing to be more discreet around human travellers in the forest. They are created for the purpose to breathe life into the forest and protect it.

Plato once said; “According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.”

This is a tale of similar story. There was a beautiful dryad who fell in love with a human. The male human was in love with nature and appreciated all beautiful things in life. She watched him visit the forest every day for many years. Even the animals seemed attached to him, he was like a beacon of all things good in life. So she was naturally drawn to him, as a dryad’s duty is to watch over, and care for the forest and all living things in the forest. Eventually they met, and grew to love one another so they performed a bonding ceremony where they got “married” as humans would call it.

However dryads are divinely protected by the deities, who will punish any mortal who bring harm to their forest. Their bonding ceremony angered the deities, because they do not approve of being soul bonded to a mortal, so they cursed the mortal, making him into a tree on the other side of the forest, and froze him in time so that the dryad would never be able to communicate with him again, but would be forced to care for him.

The curse caused effects they did not expect however, because the dryad and mortal were bonded in unity, the forest became part of that, so by destroying one part of that unity, a part of the forest is dying. The mortal who was filled with anger, fear and loneliness when he was cursed, knowing he would be forced away from his wife, has lingered in that part of the forest, and malicious spirits are growing out of those emotions. To combat the evil spirits that are destroying the forest, the dryad summoned her own spirits fused with parts of her energy to try and revive the forest
