Hi everyone, My name is Yewande Oyebo, I am a Product Manager and a Content Creator. I transitioned from Category Management to Product Management in 2018 and here's a collection of videos, websites, blogs, articles, people, that helped me do this effectively.
One reason I created this guide was to help myself understand some difficult concepts. There's no better way to learn than to try to teach others right?
Please note that this guide isn't complete. I got lazy halfway but I am currently working on a new one. However, If you would like to get more Product management and Tech Related content from me, Subscribe to my newsletter here or read my Medium posts
My methodology to understand product management is in this order:
Product Vision: You try to define what you are trying to achieve.
Product Design: Designing, creating and executing a solution that solves a user’s experience deficiencies. Here we try to understand who we are creating the product for, we talk to them, we create wireframes and prototypes etc
Product Strategy: A product is a means to an end. We don't create or manage products for the simple sake of managing that product. There is usually a problem that we want to solve. What is this problem, how are we solving it and why are we solving it makes up the product strategy. What's your direction and what do you want to achieve? You need to understand this first before building a product. Sometimes you might not even need a product to solve a problem. Maybe you need the mentalist instead. How would you know this? By getting clear on your Product strategy.
Product Development: This is where you help facilitate the implementation and building of the Product. Here the Product manager works very closely with the developers and the entire Scrum team.
Product Analytics: Here you create and track your metrics. See how people are using your product and if you are meeting the goals you set.
Product Growth and Marketing: Here we create strategies that get people to know and love the product, We also implement strategies that help the product move from one level to the other.
