I always thought being a Product Designer was like being a Detective.

Think about it: you're given a case and your role is to research, find clue and deliver a solution to solve the case and bring peace to the people affected. Isn't it similar to the problem solving approach we're having as Product Designer?

But as every case is unique, so are the problems we're facing. To deliver the most satisfying experience to our users and have impact on our business, we should always be able to adapt our process to the given context.

Here's mine.

Define the

Problem to solve

Even before creating beautiful UI, our job begins when we're identifying and defining a problem to be solved.

Talking with our users, Customer Assistants & Product Experts, putting our nose into data and collaborating with our Team, we make sure the problem is worth being solved and will have both user value and business impact once it will be.

Alongside Product Managers, we should make sure everyone on the Team is onboard regarding the targeted problem, and that we will all be on the same boat.

This is our case.

Research &

Discover

We collaborate with our Team trough an iterative process to explore all possible options. We research, we interview people and users, we bring statements and make hypothesis.

Then, we test them to confirm our approach is usable, valuable, feasible, viable and validated with users.

Our role is to investigate and discover clues to solve the case, or here, our problem, and the path isn't always an easy road!
