Rough starting points:

I started with a hard drive full of old work, images, lots of files from my personal computer. I like the idea of deleting something forever (not something Im particularly good at btw). These days theres this push to try and back up things forever and never lose anything which can be helpful but also have toxic consequences, literally and figuratively when you consider how these are stored by devices constructed with all these minerals an materials. Forgetting is a thing that we humans are supposed to do, but when we can store things losslessly in perpetuity it takes that natural process from us. I wonder how this effects people and communities.

I originally wanted to make a sculptural piece with the material, in a way that shows the raw material of the device. Once I started reducing the material to its essence I realized how this would be difficult and very time consuming. The thing is, to separate metals and whatnot you need processes that include chemical separation etc, which I would be interested in doing but I don't think I have the time or resources to do so. I contacted a number of recycling plants to see if they could assist me in the process but none had the facilities to do so here, or were not willing for other reasons.

I have been wanting to make a video collage for some time now. I like the chaotic nature with so much happening at the same time and hard to keep track of it all. Theres no way to see the full picture. It really makes me think about the amount of information we process nowadays and how its likely more than we are built to handle as human beings.

The final piece will be a looping video fo a morphing faceted shape mosty like the colour/movement test but longer with more movement etc
