Mounting and Frame interfacing (Eason)
- The monocoque will have to be some sort of sandwich panel: carbon skin on the outside, honeycomb core, whether aluminum or Nomex (TBD). You need to figure out a way to mount things to it.
- The how of the Sub-team Integration system. You will work closely with them. For every sub-team interface, brainstorm/research ways to make it work. For example (chassis): Mount the lap belts via eyebolts going through steel inserts in the sandwich panel (made that up just now but you get the idea)
- Figure out rules-compliant methods of attaching a half-coque to a rear spaceframe, the main roll hoop and the front roll hoop
- Look into the different composite-specific mounts that exist on the market, or come up with your own ideas. Composite rivets, bushings, threaded inserts, etc.
- Look into AIP, IA mounting, as well as suspension hardpoints
- The main challenge we have with mounting things to the monocoque is crushing the core and bowing the fiber
