A sponsor is:
- A person in long-term recovery who has experience in the program and is further along in their recovery journey.
- A mentor or guide, especially for newcomers who are working through the grievance procedure.
- A source of companionship, someone you can talk to when facing emotional challenges.
- Not a therapist or counselor, but someone who shares their experience, strength, and hope.
🎗️What a Sponsor Does:
- Helps their sponsee work through the grievance procedure.
- Offers emotional support and practical advice.
- Models what recovery can look like.
- Is available for calls or check-ins.
🎗️What a Sponsor Does NOT Do:
- They do not offer professional mental health or medical advice.
- They do not offer legal advice.
- They do not make decisions for the sponsee.
- They do not carry the responsibility for the sponsee's recovery.
