In our Augmented Reality experience we intend to step the user through the process of "tiring" a carriage wheel, a process wheelwrights of the early 1900's used to apply a metal tire to the outside of a wheel. We thought this process would make for a good AR experience as there is a physical platform that was used in the process still outside of Monash Caulfield. We believe that using AR is a great tool for storytelling to connect users to another time and experience a profession that is no longer around today. AR has the benefit of creating natural affordances for the user that have been shown to reduce cognitive load and increase memory retention. Attached below is a storyboard of the planned experience as well as photos of the Monash tiring platform and a video on the process.
