Module Integrations

Visual Novel Maker integrates with two other GlitchSmith modules: Cinematic Cut-ins and Unboxing the Mystery. Both integrations are optional. If the companion module is not installed or not active, the related features are hidden automatically.

Cinematic Cut-ins

When Cinematic Cut-ins is installed and active, VNM can trigger cut-in animations during interactions.

Integration Points

There are three places where cut-ins connect to VNM:

Entrance Cut-in (Character Setup)

Each actor can have an entrance cut-in that plays when the character first appears on the VN stage.

  1. Open the actor's VN Portrait Config.
  2. In the Entrance Cut-in section, select a preset from the dropdown.
  3. The dropdown lists all presets configured for this actor in Cinematic Cut-ins.
  4. Toggle the Enabled checkbox to control whether the entrance cut-in plays.

When a Character Enter action runs and the actor has an entrance cut-in, the cut-in plays before the character appears. The sequence waits for the cut-in to finish before continuing.

If the Character Enter action has "Skip Entrance Cut-in" checked, the cut-in is skipped for that specific entry.

Cut-in Action (Sequence Editor)

The Cut-in action in the Sequence Editor triggers a cut-in at any point during an interaction.

Mode Behavior
Scene Plays a scene-level cut-in preset. Select from presets stored at the world level.
Actor Plays an actor-specific cut-in preset. Select the actor first, then choose from their presets.

Scene Preset Cut-in

Scene presets (saved via the Scene Preset panel) can have a cut-in assigned. When that preset is loaded, the cut-in plays as a transition effect.
