These are the guidelines that the Muslimahs club moderators have put together for ourselves. We encourage others to read through them as well. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback please share here!

Tolerance and Inclusivity

(1) We affirm this space to be inclusive of queer and non-binary members

• language: “if you identify as a Muslimah, you are welcome in this room”
• moderating:
  • if a speaker makes a statement that goes against this philosophy:
  1. reaffirm that the space is inclusive for queer & non-binary Muslimahs
  2. address the speaker —> invite them to stay and participate, but they will be removed if they continue to make the space unsafe
  3. if the person chooses to stay but then makes another hateful statement, remove them from the room

(2) We affirm this space to be inclusive and accepting of all Muslims

• language: “we are not the Haram police here, please do not haram police others” 🙂

• moderating:

  • if a speaker makes a statement judging, bullying, or condemning others:
  1. reaffirm that the space is inclusive and accepting of all who open their hearts to Allah
  2. gently remind the room that just as Allah ——-, and Allah loves those who ——— (unless the speaker said something particularly offensive or targeted at another person, probably no need to call them out directly)
  • if one or more speakers continue to make bullying statements, consider:
  1. reducing the number of people on stage so you can better manage the order/ hear from others
  2. moving people to the audience who have already spoken, and inviting them to raise their hands if they wanted to chime in again, to make more space for those who haven't spoken

(3) Please be mindful about statements such as “Islam is… / is not...", or "Islam says/ says not…” if you are not an Islamic scholar

• consider using language:
  • "according to ________"
  • “I learned that….”

Types of rooms

(1) Closed rooms

Closed rooms are visible to anyone that is already a member of the Muslimahs club, but not visible to anyone else on Clubhouse.

• anyone member can start a closed room
• members should not create rooms under the Muslimahs club that will be exclusive of any other members (ie. "hijabis only")
• members starting Club rooms should practice the above guidelines

(2) Open to Muslimahs only

Most rooms will be public, but intended only for Muslimahs. (This is to be more inclusive to Muslimahs who haven't been added as members yet, are new to Clubhouse, etc.) Moderators should:

• explicitly state in title
• reinforce in room that this space is intended for Muslimahs
• actively remove men from the room. usually this can be done without calling them out.

(3) Open to everyone

Some rooms will be open to everyone. For example, topics focused around mental health and wellbeing may remain open to all, so our brothers can also benefit from the knowledge shared.

• language: “we are keeping this room open to men because ____, but if there are any Muslimahs who are uncomfortable or would feel more comfortable not having men in the room, please DM me and we will remove them.
• if anyone DMs to make the space Muslimahs-only, please quietly remove the men and hold the space as Muslimahs-only for the rest of the time
