Virtues

Intro to Virtues at Aula

Creating a diverse, mission-focused and fully distributed community of exceptional people is critical to being able to achieve our mission of making it easy for all educators to create high-quality digital learning experiences.

Where other teams have values, we have virtues. The difference between virtues and values is that virtues are values in action. We expect from all team members, that our virtues guide behaviour. Leading by example is part of what it means to do well at Aula.

In ensuring we’re aligned about how our virtues guide actions, two things are important:

Our virtues are what makes Aula unique:

When it comes to our virtues, we lean into what makes Aula unique: we’re building a team where exceptional people who are silly ambitious about improving education - at scale - will thrive. Some people tell us that we’re too intense or that we take our virtues too far. We’re fine with that.

We judge our virtues by what we do, not what we say:

Whilst our virtues will evolve, it is important to emphasise that when it comes to defining our virtues at any given point in time, we disagree and commit. For example, as we grow, we’ll have interviewees or team members who exceed expectations on all fronts, except they don’t fit the culture that our virtues describe. We’ll be honest with these people that Aula is not the right place for them to work.
