Having detailed the major/complex functions found in Unite 4 in other articles, this article will details more granular functions you may need help with.

Ad blocking

Unite is the only SSB tool of it’s kind to offer built-in ad blocking. This is particularly useful if you don’t wish to block ads from all sites, but just one or two in particular. Ad blocking can be enabled in Preferences (⌘ ,) → General → Block ads.

Floating windows

You can enable 'floating' windows within your Unite apps, keeping whatever content is in the window at top level regardless of what window you are working in. To enable this, go to Appearance → Window Level → Floating. You can learn more here:

Customizing your Unite apps

Keychain

One of the major reasons users have historically chose Coherence (our Chrome based SSB tool) over Unite is that Cohernece supported 3rd party password management tools. But now, with Unite 4, Unite apps can tap into the native and most secure password manager on macOS with Keychain support.

All your passwords are encrypted within your device’s keychain, and we can never see them at any point. In order to make this work, we created a separate, sandboxed, specially signed app that handles keychain management within Unite apps. Thus, all your passwords will sync across Unite apps.

When you first sign into a site in a Unite app, Unite will ask if you wish to save the password. Once you do, it will autofill whenever you visit that site in a Unite app. Passwords saved in your keychain outside of Unite can not be used in Unite or vice versa.

Notifications

Unite and some of it’s competitors initially supported notifications for sites like Gmail and Facebook, but this compatibility was removed after changes in recent macOS updates. However, in Unite 4, notifications are back and better than ever.

Unite 4 has complete support for the open HTML notification standard, meaning any site that supports Google Chrome or Safari notifications can now send notifications to created Unite apps. And, because you can customize the name and icon of your Unite apps, these notifications are more easily identifiable than when on a standard browser.

This also finally means you can fully replace bloated electron apps like Slack or Discord with lightweight, native replacements without losing functionality.

Pro tools

Professionals and developers love to use Unite to easily test work in different configurations and profiles, as well as tinker with user scripts and styles. With Unite 4, we’ve added a number of major new features heavily requested by this group.

Htaccess and basic auth Support - Users can now log into Htaccess configuration files and basic auth dialogues from within their Unite apps.
