Like in the official mainline games, Mega Evolution requires a Mega Ring, as well as the specific stone required to Mega Evolve a Pokémon. Additionally, in Pokémon Echo, you also need to have at least 160 points in Friendship for a Pokémon to be eligible for Mega Evolution.
