Caroline thinks Aishwarya could go ahead and get started
-
Using the standard parts of a reporting system
-
Take a few different reports and put them through the process
-
See what works well and what doesn’t
-
I try to push for us to do internally
-
We should just see so that we know what does and doesn’t work
-
Co-design: I’ll get the team on the same page and say, we have to come with stuff to show. We can’t show them nothing.
-
I don’t think it has to be created from scratch — look at any of the other systems and just design based on that
-
“this is the standard and kind of what we need”
-
Can you initiate this on your own? Or do I have to signal to my teammates what I’m doing? Who might stand in my way if I do this work?
-
Reach out to other folks who are experts e.g. Caroline, Berkman Klein, Rachael, invite people in to the process. What do you think of these changes as experts in the space?
- I reach out to people across a variety of different points in a project
- If I was starting this, I’d ping someone like the Integrity Institute
- I’d love to talk to other T&S stakeholders
- Transparent opacity — summarize what they’ve said
- We’re part of a global internet community
- Here’s how seatbelts and airbags are designed, we don’t need to remake it
- We may have to change things based on how our platform is designed
- Are there things I don’t know about for a reporting system because I haven’t worked internally at, say, Facebook?
- Design research
- Interview questions for users + experts
- User test the system
- Ask non-Wikimedian experts to test the system
- I would ask if it’s possible to present the system in Wikimedia & non-Wikimedia events to get much more targeted feedback and information from volunteers and non-Wikimedian experts
-
Set up at personal blog on wiki to show the community what it is I’m doing
- Caroline would do this and she would get user feedback sometimes
- Helped signal interest in a project
- Say “I wanna walk people through the design process more” and get the CRS to share them. Forces the Foundation to show my work to the community. Let’s the pedantic and annoying Wikimedians fight the fight for me.
- Collect the users
- Test with the users
