This notice explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal data when you use Mealia’s mobile apps and website (the Services). We act as a controller under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1) Data we collect
- Account & profile: name, email, and any preferences you provide (e.g., household size, dietary needs, budget, kitchen equipment).
- Usage & content: recipes you save/create, meal plans, basket items, swaps/removals, and in-app actions.
- Retail & affiliate metadata: chosen retailer, basket IDs/contents, referral/affiliate identifiers, timestamps, and order value ranges needed for attribution.
- Device & analytics: IP address, device/OS, app version, crash logs, attribution and engagement events.
- Location: coarse location only (e.g., city/postcode from IP or what you provide) to tailor availability/prices. We do not collect precise GPS.
- Support & communications: messages you send us (email or in-app).
- Payments: handled by Apple App Store/Google Play; we do not receive or store full card details on our servers.
If we need to collect new categories of data, we’ll tell you first and, where required, ask for consent.
2) How we use your data (lawful bases)
- Provide and operate the Services (Contract): create meal plans, build/optimise your shopping basket, connect to supermarkets, maintain your account, and deliver core features.
- Personalised recommendations (Legitimate interests): tailor recipes, plans, and substitutions to your preferences. You can opt out (see §8).
- Analytics, diagnostics, and product improvement (Legitimate interests): understand performance, fix bugs, and improve UX.
- Marketing:
- Email/SMS: sent only with your consent (you can withdraw at any time).
- Push/in-app: for similar Mealia services under legitimate interests; you can turn these off in settings.
