Try Guys

The Process:

I chose the Try Guys to analyze for my first LEAP because they are YouTubers that I have been following since last year and I thought it would be interesting to take the time to dive deeper into their work and decide why I’m truly a fan of theirs.

When starting this process, I was unsure of exactly where to start. I felt like we were given a lot of creative freedom for this project which normally isn’t my strong suit. I like the list where I can check things off as I go so that I’m sure I’m hitting the requirements. When I finally did start, I decided the best way to go about things was to analyze all their media platforms and answer the five critical questions. I quickly learned that I had a lot to say about the Try Guys and continued to write down all the information I could. I then turned this collected information into a script for the screencast. I think one of the biggest struggles of this project was compressing everything I wanted to say into a less than three minute video. I read through the script at least four to five times before I finally had condensed it enough into the timed limit. Who knew it would actually be tough to stay within the limits? Going forward, I started playing around with the Screencast-O-Matic, which ended up being a mess. I felt like my issue with this application is that there isn’t a way to edit the video, which means it needs to be perfectly started and stopped with no mess ups. I decided to move over to iMovie since last year I had used it to create a screencast for another class. During the iMovie process I collaged pictures together that I took off the internet and put them into the iMovie application where I was then able to record a voice over and adjust accordingly. The last step of putting this project together was putting together my Notion page for this project. At first, I was at a loss as to where to start. But after playing around with it I feel that I succeeded in creating a page that holds all the necessary information needed while also being semi-aesthetically pleasing.

Throughout this process, I learned that I’m a fan of the Try Guys because they provide mindless entertainment for their viewers. I love being able to sit down at the end of the day and watch one of their videos to unwind and put a smile on my face. I think what makes them such a successful YouTube group is that they truly thrive off of their fan base and allow for the fans to decide what they’re going to do next. They embody the idea that there is nothing wrong with being yourself which I think sends such a positive message to their viewers.

When it was all said and done, I was actually impressed with my work and what I was able to gather about the Try Guys. My goal throughout this process was to be able to put something together that would allow for others to gain a better understanding of who the Try Guys were and why they should take a minute to look into their work.
