How to walk through a minefield

The Big Idea: God meets our chaos with perfect peace.

What happens when the people who are supposed to protect you also wound you? In this message, we look at the “been through the wringer” attachment style—what happens to your heart and brain when you grow up in a war zone of mixed signals, changing rules, and emotional chaos. Using stories, humor, and John 20, we see how Jesus steps into that confusion, doesn’t shame us for our struggle, and offers real peace, not cliches. If you’ve ever felt like you can’t tell who’s safe, this message is for you.

Daily Devotions

Day 1 – When Love Hurts and Helps

Some people grow up in homes that feel like war zones. One day, a parent is kind and fun. The next day, they’re angry, scary, or gone. The same person who hugs you might also hurt you. That’s confusing.

This is what “been through the wringer” feels like. The rules keep changing, and your heart learns, “I don’t know if people are safe.” That confusion outside of you becomes confusion inside of you.

God sees that. He doesn’t call you weak for feeling that way. He knows your story.

In John 20, the disciples were also confused. Jesus had died. Now, some said He was alive. They were hiding behind locked doors, scared and unsure. Jesus didn’t show up and yell at them. He came gently and said, “Peace be with you.”

He steps into our war zone the same way.
