Expectations on the Project

Technical contribution:

I expect to lead the design, integration, and optimization of the hardware platform, including motors, propulsion, GPS, ESCs, servos, batteries, and the BMS system. My goal is to ensure reliable power delivery, responsive actuator control, and seamless coordination with the core control algorithm.

Results Expectation:

I expect the final prototype to achieve consistent stability under varying load and wave conditions, with hardware performance that complements and amplifies the algorithm’s control accuracy. The system should be robust, waterproof, and safe for long-term use in real-world water environments.

Team Collaboration:

I expect to work closely on the powertrain system, conduct stress testing and debugging, and collaborate with the mechanical design to ensure overall hardware reliability and performance under challenging conditions. (e.g. seawater)

Learning Gaps Identified

  1. Marine electrical systems: While experienced with general electronics, I lack deep knowledge in waterproofing, corrosion protection, and marine-grade electrical/mechanical design, which are critical for reliability.
  2. ESC tuning & motor dynamics: Familiarity with ESC control is limited mainly to drones/land robotics; deeper understanding of torque-speed characteristics, efficiency optimization, and closed-loop motor feedback under water resistance is needed.
  3. High-current power management & BMS design: More experience required in balancing high-discharge batteries, thermal management, and safety cutoffs for long-duration operation.
  4. Mechanical-electrical integration: Need hands-on experience with servo mounting, vibration damping, and sealing techniques for water-exposed mechanical-hardware systems.

My Responsibilities in the Project

  1. Actuator System Design & Testing: Select appropriate motors, ESCs, and servos; test them under simulated aquatic loads; ensure proper mounting and waterproofing.
