🍄 MAD is a Berlin-based biomaterials startup developing high-performance mycelium composites as an alternative to hard plastics and other unsustainable materials in demanding applications. Using proprietary formulations, including our composite MADxR, **we grow engineered mycelium materials with the strength and durability required in industries where most bio-based alternatives still fail to meet customer needs.

🧗‍♀️ Our first pilot market is the climbing industry, where climbing holds serve as a test bed to validate the performance and production consistency of our materials. In parallel, we are positioning our material platform for applications in automotive, sports equipment, and construction.

🔬 After completing multiple iterations and prototypes, and generating initial revenue, we are now continuing with a more IP based deep-tech approach, for strengthening the innovation edge. For that, we are setting up our own scientific team and partnering up with Fraunhofer IAP and the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens, we are exploring enhanced mycelium strains to further improve material performance. As we scale, MAD will serve as the commercialisation arm within a growing consortium, transitioning from in-house production to a hybrid model that includes technology licensing to industrial manufacturers for strong commercial scalability in the world-wide market.

🌟 MAD’s mission is to deliver renewable, circular, high-strength composites that enable industries to decarbonize without compromising performance. This vision aligns with market trends of increasing regulatory pressure and a rising market CAGR, positioning MAD to capture a significant share of a multi-billion euro serviceable market within the next decade.

⚠️ Problem:

Material economy in crisis: rethinking materials, production and impact.

Waste management

Only 9% of the materials produced globally are recycled.

Carbon footprint

57% of global CO2 comes from extraction of materials and manufacturing of everyday goods.

No alternatives

92% of high-perfromance applications are still dependant on fossil fuels.

🍄 Solution

Mushrooms: We develop mycelium-based advance materials tailored to meet high-strenght applications.

End of life solution

100% circular. Our materials are either biogradable or recyclable.

Reduction per ton

89.3% less CO2 compared to plastics. It can be replenished continuously without depleting the Earth

Nature provides

Mycelium composites can achieve the strength and durability customers need.
