Lyon is a land of honor, splendor, and rigid hierarchy, where the ideals of knighthood and noble lineage shape every aspect of life. Rolling fields of golden grain stretch between walled cities crowned with soaring spires, and vineyards climb the sun-dappled hillsides, producing wines coveted across the realms. Castles rise like proud sentinels over fertile valleys, their banners fluttering with the colors of ancient houses whose bloodlines claim divine favor and centuries of rule.
Society in Lyon is bound by the Code of Chivalry, a creed extolling loyalty, valor, and the defense of the weak. Knights clad in gleaming armor joust in grand tourneys, while troubadours weave tales of heroism and courtly love for nobles feasting in candlelit halls. Beneath this glittering veneer, however, intrigue festers in the courts of ambitious barons, and the common folk bear the weight of heavy taxes and noble rivalries.
Magic in Lyon is widely accepted, especially within the prestigious royal academies where the most gifted spellcasters study under the patronage of the crown. Though chivalry and steel still dominate Lyonian culture, magic is seen as a mark of refinement and intellect, particularly among the nobility. Its roots run deep in the nation’s history, for one of Lyon’s founding figures was a legendary wizard whose arcane prowess helped secure the realm’s early victories and shape its enduring traditions. While magic alone does not guarantee power, those who master both the blade and the spellbook earn admiration as paragons of Lyonian excellence.
To live in Lyon is to dwell in a realm where honor and ambition walk hand in hand, where beauty and bloodshed share the same tapestry, and where every noble seeks eternal glory in the eyes of history.
Long ago, the verdant fields and forests of Lyon were ruled over by a twin-headed dragon of black and silver named Krystaak and Syraak. These mighty scaled tyrants lorded over the people of Lyon for thousands of years, according to legends. One day, a simple halfling squire named Bertrand de Saint had had enough of living under the dragon's foot. Every day, he trained with his trusty warhammer and shield in an effort to train his body. He read every book in his lord's library he could, to train his mind. And he made sure nobody in his castle town had any problems if he could help it, to train his heart. Once he had grown and was recognized by his lord, he set forth to each of the great kingdoms in Lyon to rally against the terrible dragon. As he went to each kingdom, he asked not for supplies, riches, or an army; all he requested was the aid of the greatest protector of each kingdom to march upon the dragon's castle. After a fierce battle between the dragon kings and Bertrand's party, the heroes were victorious, but at the cost of Bertrand's greatest friend, a wizard named Jaques Lyon. To honor his fallen companion, the newly crowned King de Saint named his kingdom "Lyon", so that the memory of his brother would last forever.
Lyon stretches across varied landscapes, from the icy northern highlands to the fertile southern lowlands. The north is dominated by snow-capped mountains and glacial forests, where conifers and hardy evergreens endure harsh winters and cold winds, and rivers often freeze in midwinter. Moving south, the land softens into rolling hills, dense deciduous and mixed forests, and wide plains suitable for vineyards, pastures, and farmland. Numerous rivers wind through the countryside, feeding lakes and creating natural borders between baronial territories, while the coastline is rocky yet dotted with natural harbors that facilitate trade. Lyon’s forests are not just scenic; they are a source of timber, game, and herbs, and many small villages and noble estates are nestled within their protective shade, creating a kingdom where wilderness and civilization coexist in balance.
