LumaGuard — Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the LumaGuard browser extension ("LumaGuard", "the Extension", "we", "us"). By installing or using LumaGuard, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the Extension.

1. What LumaGuard does

LumaGuard is a browser extension that scans web pages you visit and flags design elements commonly classified as "dark patterns" — including fake urgency cues, hidden costs, confirmshaming language, disguised advertisements, subscription traps, and manipulative cookie banners.

LumaGuard is an informational tool. It does not block, modify, or alter the behaviour of any website. It does not interact with websites on your behalf. It simply analyses the page content visible in your browser and surfaces findings to you so you can make informed decisions.

2. No guarantee of accuracy

LumaGuard uses a rule-based detection engine. While we strive to make detection as accurate as possible:

• LumaGuard may produce false positives — flagging elements that are not actually deceptive.
• LumaGuard may produce false negatives — missing dark patterns that are present on a page.
• A pattern flagged by LumaGuard is not a legal determination that the website or business has engaged in unlawful or unethical conduct. It is a heuristic signal based on common design patterns.

You are responsible for your own decisions when using websites. LumaGuard is a tool to help inform those decisions, not replace them.

3. No legal, financial, or consumer-protection advice

LumaGuard does not provide legal advice, consumer-rights advice, financial advice, or any form of professional guidance. Findings produced by LumaGuard should not be relied upon as evidence in legal proceedings, complaints to regulators, disputes with businesses, or any similar context without independent verification.

If you believe a website has engaged in deceptive or unlawful practices, you should consult a qualified professional or contact the relevant consumer protection authority in your jurisdiction.
