Muscle Compartments

Anterior compartment

Deep paroneal (fibular) nerve

anterior tibial artery and veins

Foot extensor muscles

=> decreased sensation between the 1st and 2nd toes, decreased dorsiflexion of the foot, foot drop, and claw foot

Lateral compartment

superficial paroneal nerve

Deep posterior compartment

Tibial nerve

Paroneal artery and veins

Posterior tibial artery and veins

Compartment $ => decreased sensation in the plantar surface, decreased toe flexion, and pain with passive toe extension

Superficial posterior compartment

Muscles

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS)

The most common site for ACS is the anterior compartrnent of the leg, which includes the foot extensor muscles, anterior tibial artery, and the deep peroneal (fibular) nerve. Injury to the deep peroneal nerve causes decreased sensation between the first and second toes, decreased dorsiflexion of the foot, foot drop, and claw foot.
