Lymphatic Drainage

Superficial (follows venous system) & Deep (follows arterial system)

In the lower extremities, the superficial lymphatic system is divided into medial and lateral tracks

Medial track = along the long saphenous vein up to the superficial inguinal lymph nodes, bypassing the popliteal nodes.

Lateral track = communicates with popliteal and inguinal nodes

Superficial inguinal nodes also drain lymph from the scrotum (not testes), perineum, anterior abdominal wall (inferior to the umbilicus), buttocks, and skin of the penis except for the glans

The glans drains via the deep lymphatic system into the deep inguinal nodes (not the popliteal nodes)

prostate --> Internal iliac lymph nodes

Testes --> Paraaortic
