When changing locales, it gives you the chance to translate the fields manually, I selected this option and it came back fully populated with the default language.
I had the text area and the WYSIWYG filled up with text, I changed locales and selected populate from current, when I continued, both fields were empty, and when I came back to the default locale, the text was gone as well.
