When you take part in tasks that are moderated across other tasks and schools, a judge will be making moderation judgements as well as judgements on their particular task as part of their allocation.
For example, in our national assessments such as Assessing Primary Writing (APW) or Improving Secondary Writing (ISW), a judge will judge scripts from other schools as well as from their own school. In APW, every 5th* judgement is a moderation judgement of scripts from other schools; for ISW it is every 10th judgement.
Therefore, when a judge of a national task has completed their allocation, not all the judgements will be 'local' judgements. When a judge makes the recommended 10 judgements per candidate for your school for an APW task, in fact 8 of those judgements will be local judgements and 2 of those will be moderation judgements.
In the example above, the first judge has completed their allocation of 50 judgements. But we can see that only 40 of these were on scripts from their own school; 10 judgements (i.e. every 5th judgement in this case) were moderation judgements on scripts from other schools.
for schools with 10 or fewer children in the group every judgement will be a moderation judgement
for schools with 20 or fewer children in the group every 2nd judgement will be a moderation judgement
for schools with 30 or fewer children in the group every 3rd judgement will be a moderation judgement
for schools with 40 or fewer children in the group every 4th judgement will be a moderation judgement
