One pleasant afternoon, my wife, Linda, and I sat with Dan Shoemaker in his home office, enjoying a glorious view of the Honga River. Sitting here admiring the view, Dan remarked that, “I am truly living the dream.”

When I asked Dan how his occupation and hobbies intersect, Dan was quick to say, “As an avid outdoorsman and  boater, no career but real estate offers you the freedom and independence to live life on your own  terms. For me, that means plenty of time on the water or in the woods.”

Going on, Dan expanded his thoughts by sharing, “Often when I am fishing or in the woods, I am actually making money because other agents are selling my listings. It is a beautiful thing to enjoy the outdoors, while at the same time having other agents sell my listings. No other business offers such perks. It’s the perfect business for an outdoorsman!”

Hailing from Lancaster, PA, his prior life included being CEO of a large publishing company, in charge of over a hundred employees. Moving here twenty years ago, Dan got into building homes and land development, which naturally led him to get his real estate license. When he got into real estate, his passion for building teams led him to move from simply selling real estate to ultimately purchasing three Exit Realty offices because their technology platform is the best in the business, and they offer a true residual income opportunity. Dan is seeking to invite more agents to join his team, as he looks to acquire one or two more offices.

In an industry that is sadly not known for honesty, integrity is important to Dan. He tells his potential clients the truth about the market. When recruiting agent, while he is quick to tell people about the many benefits of becoming a real estate agent, he is also honest about the requirements to succeed. As Dan so wisely shared, “I won’t kid you… real estate takes real work. But, in real estate you are your own boss, control your own time, and the only one who can put a cap on your income is you.”

With a wry smile, Dan also shared that, “Real estate is one of the few professions that does not have an upper end limit on age. No matter what your age, if you are young at heart, are coachable, and desire to help others, you can succeed.” And he went on to say that it also offers adults just entering the job market an unparalleled opportunity to build not a career, but a business.

So, if you are an experienced agent looking  for a new “family”(and Exit On the Bay is more family than a team), want to enhance your technological and social media skills, and are interested in learning about developing residual income, you need to give Dan a call.

Dan also is extremely interested in speaking to people with no real estate experience. If you have never been in real estate but are looking for a legitimate opportunity to build a successful future, you would find it extremely valuable meeting with Dan. (I might add, with the exceptional training and support staff that Dan has put in place, a novice will quickly be able to begin developing a profitable business…being “in business for yourself but not by yourself.”)
