The Live Director lets the GM run visual novel scenes in real time without pre-scripting. The GM types dialogue in the Foundry chat, manages characters through a control panel, and handles choices and scene changes on the fly.
Click the Clapperboard icon in the Token Controls sidebar (left edge of the screen). This opens the Live Director panel at 440x700.
The panel is GM-only.
Click Start Session to activate the VN overlay for all connected players. The overlay appears with an empty stage.
Click End Session to close the overlay and return to the normal Foundry view.
Use Rehearse when you want to prepare a live scene before players see it.
While rehearsing, the VN overlay is open for the GM only. When Go Live is clicked, the prepared state is sent to players. Characters marked as hidden are not included in that broadcast.
The Live Director is split into four tabs. The session header, Go Live button, End Session button, and Quick Actions stay visible above the tabs.
| Tab | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Cast | Add actors, filter/search actors, manage active characters, hide or reveal characters, and open an actor's VN Portrait Config. |
| Scene | Pick or browse backgrounds, set a location label, clear the location label, and manage background locations. |
| FX | Start weather, ambience, mood, effect, or custom FX. Tune active FX and stop individual effects. |
| Story | Run prepared interactions, choose target players, build live choices, and present choices. |
Quick Actions are available during a live or rehearsal session.
