Backstory:

Lifecycle Portal was a project from the Chief Information Officer. The goal was to reinvent the way CompuCom's end-customers have the freedom and flexibility to work with the tools they want. This would require a "Portal" for end-customers to access and use to acquire devices. In 2019, it's a pretty standard benefit for an employer to offer their employees any technology setup they would like. If it can increase productivity and employee happiness, it's worth it. But this is back in 2014, and for a large organization offer, this kind of choice was unheard of. Organizations at this scale simply cant undertake this type of IT task. Luckily, CompuCom saw this as a way for their clients (the companies themselves) to offer their employees the tools their employees felt most comfortable with.

To start this new program, CompuCom needs a "portal" for making these requests. The natural and obvious solution was an internal, white-label eCommerce website. The reason for this is because CompuCom works with large business organizations like GE, USBank, and Cigna. These types of companies want their internal tools to have a similar look and feel. Something like that of an Internal Best Buy but with all purchases tied to an individual employee. Something we also discussed was each employee getting a flexible technology budget for mobile phones, tablets or laptops, and monitors.

The goal of the eCommerce site was to allow existing employees to have freedom and flexibility purchasing directly from their IT Department (CompuCom) without feeling like they were dealing with a complex democratic system.
