Capability Definitions
This section is dedicated to everyone at our company who leads and manages others. Leadership, like any job or skill, requires time, focus, and commitment to do it well. People leadership is one of the most rewarding types of work anyone can do, but it’s also not for everyone.

âś…Â Explainer summary for each level
Technical vs. Non-Technical:
- We expect all employees at The Org to bring a combination of hard and soft skills to their work, and all roles require some level of domain-specific technical proficiency. Roles are generally placed on the Technical job track when at least 70% of the daily work involves leveraging technical skills. Common technical skills at The Org include (but are not limited to) computer programming and coding, software development, data structure and algorithms, big data analytics, data transformation, and machine learning. Though not required, individuals working in technical roles tend to have degrees or prior work experience in computer science or engineering.Right now, the teams at The Org with technical roles are:
- Engineering (all roles)
- Growth (technical growth and analytics roles)
- Product (product managers with CS/engineering backgrounds)
Career Tracks:
- The Org currently has seven levels, which serve to illustrate a career’s worth of growth. We outline two tracks - for individual contributors (ICs) and people leaders (PLs) - depending on how employees are spending the majority of their time. That said, given our company size and the need to remain agile, employees on the people leader track are generally still expected to make a significant impact as ICs, and employees on the IC track may still take on people leadership responsibility from time to time.

- The levels correspond with job titling conventions, to provide clarity internally and to correspond to typical standard job titles externally. There are certain roles (Data Analyst, Product Manager, etc.) that may deviate from the leveling below below since those roles typically contain “Analyst” or “Manager” across several levels.
