Act Two B is where your story earns its ending.

Everything in Act Two A was rising action with a net positive trajectory. Act Two B is the reversal. Things get worse. Then worse. Then the worst.

This doesn't mean the MC is helpless — they're proactive now, remember, they made that choice at the midpoint. But their flaw is still with them, and the antagonist is no longer testing them. The antagonist is trying to destroy them.

Chapter 21 — External Demons Close In

The antagonist regroups after the midpoint. Even if we don't see them directly, we see their shadow — evidence of their preparations, the expansion of their influence, the tightening of the net around the MC.

This can also be a moment to add complications. New pressures. The world closing in from multiple directions simultaneously. A plot twist is welcome here.

Chapter 22 — Things Get Worse

Just when it seemed like it couldn't. A betrayal. An unexpected revelation. A shocking twist that raises the stakes beyond what the MC thought possible.

The MC survives — but only barely. And the reason they survive is that their flaw has begun, for the first time, to genuinely crack. A moment of doubt. A small surrender to the truth the B story character has been trying to tell them.

It's not a transformation. It's a hairline fracture in the wall they've been building.

Chapter 23 — Internal Demons Close In

The external pressure has cracked the wall, and now the internal pressure pours through. This is the chapter where the MC's flaw does real damage — not to the antagonist, but to the MC themselves. Self-sabotage. A broken relationship. A choice made from fear instead of wisdom.

The flaw is no longer a background character. It's center stage. The MC may try to fight it, may try to rationalize it, may try to go back to the Ordinary World in their mind even if they can't in their body.

Chapter 24 — Plan of Attack

After the internal collapse of Chapter Twenty-Three, the MC pulls themselves together — barely — and regroupsith their allies. They take stock of what they know about the antagonist. They form a plan.

This is the planning scene. The strategic session. The moment where the MC steps back into the proactive role they claimed at the midpoint, even if they're battered and uncertain. The plan is real. The execution begins here.
