Pre lecture notes:

I have a sense that the key take aways from this lecture will be that regulation needs to be adaptive because of the social impacts of rapidly developing technologies. How you measure and regulate today, will need to be different to how you measure and regulate tomorrow. Instead of overhauling the mechanisms, learning and adapting is the best course. Not replacing.

This will be interesting to consider when we speak about measuring the success of a regulation and the qualitative factors involved.

This lecture covered the challenges and difficulties of IoT and the regulation, standards and legislation around it.

• Extensive network means extensive vulnerabilities. A network will only be as strong as it’s weakest link and if one device becomes compromised the entire network becomes compromised.
• As networks are attacked, this opens up more opportunities to learn and exploit vunerabilities
• High cost of software to protect IoT can disincentive investment to protect it
• The complexity of a network can be difficult to understand, manage and navigate making it difficult to create preemptive solutions to defend
