Why would I leave

• When pandemic is over: this is an 7hr/week commitment. (I have to go to ground school, since if I'm staying I'm staying for the pilot.) You can master AI spending 7hr/week on it for a year. Would I rather throw my dice at a pilot's license or mater AI? I'd master AI.
• I'm not getting anything out of cadets. 2hr/week Thursday nights → I learn nothing.
• Tired of their attempts to enforce discipline but clearly no one shows up to sessions. Tired of how they enforce discipline like they're the good guys, so if you don't show up you're the loser who isn't disciplined. It's low standards anyways, everyone else at your level is slacking hard anyway. You're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Spend time in low standards environments, become a low standards person.

Yea I know the main reason I actually joined cadets was just because it's an extra thing and I wanted to be the "best" out of all my peers. So I'm listing reasons I would stay rather than why I joined.

Why I wanted to stay in Cadets:

1. Pilot's license → step to going to space

2. Pilot's license → looks cool

3. Leadership "WO1" on resume

4. Faunia & Jessie

5. Work I've already put in

   • Eh Adara says it doesn't matter that much. Many current astronauts don't have pilot's licenses. If you get your life together and this is something you want to pursue later, then you'll find a way.

7. Pilot's license → looks cool

   • 1 year ago getting a pilot's license was the coolest thing i can concieve of. Now: starting your own startup is cooler. Making videos is cooler. And those bring me fulfillment on top of being cool.

   Getting a pilot's license also looks cool to others in cadets: prove to those who doubted me. Glider is seen as highest level of achievement in cadets. I've already learned everything about aviation and I'm confident that I can get the license.

   • If you're trying to get the license because you want validation from others in cadets & congratulations you got glider, you won't be satisfied ever with external validation. Validation seeking is never ending — getting validation never actually makes you happier. And if you want nice words from cool people you look up to, just look at this:

     

8. Leadership "WO1" on resume

   • Based on what I've seen in Cadets, it's pretty low standards. I doubt those WO2s and WO1s even do much. Especially with low standards 166 today.

   • Maintain the relationship — it's very possible if you put in the effort. But before that, gotta define for yourself what you want success in this friendship to look like.

10. Work I've already put in

    • Sunk cost fallacy.
    • Yea you're close to being Sgt but hey what if I spend all time that would've been in cadets getting Sgt (thurs 7-9) to do one same thing each week? Then at end of June, you can see actively if this was worth it — whether the progress you made in that one area was better/worse than retiring from cadets with Sgt.
