Leaders are the autonomous characters that the player can assign certain macro-commands to.

In almost all MOBA games, these characters are fighters of some sort. Gladiators in an arena. In Shotcaller we want to keep it more abstract than that. While we do think of the game as a very apt simulation of "war strategy", we do not want to constrict ourselves merely to legends of warfare.

Persuasion

What all these Leaders ultimately do is that they persuade their opponents. Persuasion can be done in equal measure with the sword as well as the pen.

For some leaders their battle takes place primarily in the physical realm, but for others the primary realm is political, spiritual or some other "soft" concept.

Most great leaders have primarily done battle with their minds. We just default to a "fantastical warrior" rendering of all Leaders because it fits well with the MOBA flow. We might eventually play around with even more abstract renderings that don't invoke themes of war at all.

Historical characters, remixed

Our approach to Leader thematization is to base all our leaders on real historical or legendary characters. But rather than calling the character "Alexander the Great", we'll just call it Alex.

Special: Deals damage in an AOE around it for 100 damage whenever >3 units are within range. Cooldown: 12s.

AOE: should be able to basically take whatever the minimum distance to attack another enemy is, multiply that by 1.5x and you have your radius.
