Lost at the Start: A First-Time User Experience on Layer3
This is a personal UX reflection based on my first-time experience using Layer3. I focused on the onboarding experience, identified friction points, and proposed simple improvements for a better beginner journey.
Context
Layer3 is a Web3 quest platform designed to reward users with XP and prizes for completing blockchain-based tasks.
As a new user, I approached the platform excited to explore beginner quests and understand how it worked.
User Problem
Upon landing on Layer3, I immediately faced several challenges:
- No clear explanation of what Layer3 offers.
- A homepage that felt busy and unclear about purpose — am I here to learn, earn, or play?
- Beginner quests assumed prior Web3 knowledge, using terms like mint, claim, and airdrop without context.
- Overwhelming task lists with no guide on how XP connects to real-world rewards.
UX Impact
These gaps led to:
- Feeling lost and uncertain as a first-time user.
- Emotional frustration: “Why am I doing this?”
- Decreased motivation to continue quests or engage deeper.
