A recent addition to the team, Kylan joined AAC in January 2025 and has already found a deep appreciation for the work.

Her favorite part is knowing that her presence makes a tangible, positive difference.

“It is a wonderful thing to show up to a place and know that just by being there you make a positive difference, and while it may feel like a very small impact for you, it is a huge impact for the animals you’re taking care of.”

She loves feeling like a part of something bigger and making an impact, “even if that difference is clean litter boxes in the morning.”

When mentoring, Kylan loves to remind new volunteers that it’s okay to ask for help. In her own words: “I love teaching volunteers that we are volunteers, it is a wonderful thing to support the animals, and also recognize that sometimes in situations you just gotta call staff. And there’s nothing wrong with that!”

Outside of the shelter, Kylan is a musician who plays gigs around Austin! She comes home to her one-year-old tuxedo cat, Bean, who is “perfect in every way, even when she attacks my feet at night and decides that she needs to destroy one of my plants.”
