Hi guys, first I would like to introduce myself. My name is Karla Guzman Zabaleta, I have been studying at Platzi English Academy since December 2021. I would like to tell you a story about something that happened before the pandemic started.

In the old building where I lived, many tourists came. One of those tourists who stayed was an older man with blue eyes.

One day he was in the hallway facing the street and a strong breeze slammed the door to his apartment. His keys and phone were left inside.

He needed help and he had to contact Victor, our host.

Only he, my family, and I were in the building. So he knocked on the door to ask for our help.

The first thing he said was: I speak french. Sabes English por favor?

And I answered very nervously: I can speak English.

His name is Jean Yves, he lives in Quebec, Canada. He loves coming to Santa Marta. And his favorite activity is riding a bike.

After we solved the problem he had, he invited us to have pizza for dinner that day. He was very grateful to us for helping him.

During the conversation, I told him that I was very sorry because I didn't speak English very well. I was very embarrassed by my pronunciation and I didn't know how to say the right words.

He became very serious and he told me:

I have been visiting Latin America since I was 45 years old. Today I am 74 years old. I know a few words in Spanish. My main language is French. You have better English than me. I'm the one who should apologize. I asked for your help and I was very lucky that you spoke English. Otherwise, I would not have been able to enter my house.

Don't apologize for not knowing English. You know two languages, I barely know English so don't apologize. Keep learning.

He told me: "Keep learning"

Jean Yves stayed in Santa Marta for six months. We became friends. We had dinner together several times, we went to the beach, we cooked fried fish... We even met his son and his daughter-in-law at Christmas.
